Dear {{Constituent First Name}},

This week, many of us watched the news out of Minnesota with deep concern as reports emerged of resettled refugees being detained through U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ Operation Post-Admission Refugee Reverification and Integrity Strengthening (PARRIS). This action is unprecedented in our nation’s long history of refugee resettlement and deeply troubling. It has generated fear and uncertainty for people who were welcomed into this country through a legal, life-saving pathway and believed they were finally safe.

Moments like this remind us why the Long Welcome matters and why Canopy’s presence in our community is so critical.

Thank you for the strong show of support during our end-of-year campaign. Together, we raised $69,067.  Thank you to the anonymous donors who provided a generous match, and an extra thank you to the 206 community members who committed to making a financial gift to Canopy every month in 2026. These funds will be used where they are needed most in the months ahead, sustaining our case management, youth services, immigration legal services, and much more. Your partnership ensures that families are not navigating uncertainty alone.

January is also Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and we are grateful to stand with survivors. In response to community need, Canopy recently launched services for survivors of human trafficking. We are already seeing an increase in individuals seeking support, and we are honored to be a trusted resource for people who have experienced the heinous crimes of labor trafficking or sex trafficking as they work toward safety and healing.  Read more about our new program here

The year ahead will not be without challenges. But we will continue to show up, advocate for what is right, and walk alongside refugees and survivors with care, determination, and hope.

Thank you for standing with us.

With gratitude,

Joanna Krause
Executive Director
